At least 149 leaders and activists of BNP were arrested in several cases filed against 469 named and many unnamed persons over Saturday’s (July 29) clashes with law enforcers.
A total of 11 cases were filed with seven police stations in the capital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of DMP Media and Public Relations Department Md Farooq Hossain confirmed the matter.
Police have so far arrested 149 of the accused, said Faruk Hossain.
According to the documents, one case was field with Kadamtali, Sutrapur, Airport and Bangshal police stations while two cases each with Uttara East and Jatrabari Police Stations and three cases were field with Uttara East Police Station.
Earlier on July 29, BNP activists and law enforcers locked in a clash at different parts in the capital including Gabtoli, Dholaikhal, Matuail, Shyamoli Jatrabari and other places while observing the sit-in programme to press home its demand for holding the election under a caretaker government.
On July 28, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced that the party and the other like-minded opposition political parties would hold sit-in programmes at all the Dhaka entry points on Saturday from 11:00am to 4:00pm.
