12,000 Jamaat men sued in Cox's Bazar

Six cases have so far been filed with Cox's Bazar Police Station accusing around 12,000 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists over clashes with police centering the 'Gayebana Janaza' of convicted war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayeedi.

According to police, in six cases total 12,367 people were sued, of which, 467 people were accused by name, others anonymity. 

The police filed five cases as plaintiffs and another case was filed by the wife of late Mohammad Forkan, who was killed in Chakria.

District Police Superintendent of Cox's Bazar Mahafuzul Islam confirmed the matter on Wednesday (August 16) night.

He said on Tuesday afternoon, there was a chase between police and Jamaat leaders and activists in the area adjacent to Elias Mia School in front of Cox's Bazar Government College. 

The incident happened when people were asked to return home after the Janaza, he said. 

Later, Jamaat supporters attacked police and vandalized police vehicles, he added.
