A Dhaka court today (September 3) framed charges against BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, and six others in a case filed over torching a garbage truck of Dhaka South City Corporation in the city's Paltan area in 2012.
The other accused in the case are- Jamaat-e Islami leader Dr Muhammad Shafiqul Islam Masud, Saiful Alam Nirob, Moazzem Hossain Babu, Azizul Bari Helal, Kazi Rezaul Haque Babu and Khandaker Enamul Haque Enam.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain framed charges against them after scrapping a dismissal plea from the defence this afternoon.
The court also fixed September 20 for the next hearing in the case.
According to the case document, On December 9, 2012, around 250 BNP, Jamaat activists led by Fakhrul and Rizvi blocked a part of the city's Mintu Road under Paltan Model Thana. They vandalized a garbage picking truck of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and tossed bombs targeting it.
Md Aynal, driver of the DSCC truck filed a case in this connection.
On October 23, 2017, the investigating officer of the case, DB Police Sub-Inspector Anwar Hossain Khan pressed charge sheet against them.
