DHAKA: Activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir went berserk in different parts of the city after Juma prayer on Friday.

The activists of the party set fire on roads, vandalized vehicles and attacked law enforcers in city key spots, including Motijheel, Rampura, Fakirapool and Malibagh areas.

In Khilgaon: Jamaat-Shibir activists torched three vehicles, vandalized at least seven and blasted more than 20 crude bombs in city’s Khilgaon area.  

Officer-in-Charge of Khilgaon Thana Sirajul Islam Sheikh confirmed the matter to banglanews.

On information, police rushed to the spot and Jamaat-Shibir activists hurled several cocktails and brick-chips aiming police.

In Rampura: Jamaat-Shibir men blasted 15 cocktails and vandalized a passenger bus in city’s Rampura Bazar area at 1:50pm following the execution of the war crimes convict Quader Mollah.

Witnesses said riding motorbikes, some 10-12 Shibir men blasted cocktails randomly in the area.

On information, police rushed in and opened fire rubber bullets and tear shell to bring the situation under control.

Rampura Thana Sub-Inspector Dipayon confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In Malibagh: Some 30-40 people were injured in a fierce clash between police and Jamaat-Shibir in Malbagh Chowdhurypara area after Juma.

They exploded 60 cocktails and vandalized couple of vehicles.

In Motijheel: Jamaat-Shibir men blasted six cocktails and torched four private cars at capital’s Motijheel area a around 2:00pm.

Witnesses said they also tried to set fire to two rickshaw and pouring petrol they set fire on roads.

On information, a fire service vehicle rushed to the spot and was trying to douse the fire.

War crimes convict Quader Mollah walked the gallows on Thursday night in the first-ever execution in a war crimes case.

Later, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami called dawn-to dusk hartal across the country for Sunday protesting execution of the war crimes convict Jamaat leader Quader Mollah.
