NOAKHALI: A Chhatra Shibir activist was killed and 20 others were injured in a clash between the activists of Chhatra League-Jubo League and Jamaat-Shibir in Sonapur Bazar area under Sonaimuri upazila of the district on Friday evening.

The deceased was identified as Jobayer, 21, a Shibir activist and resident of the area.

Witnesses said that the Shibir activists brought out a rally in the area at 5:00pm and they locked into clash with Chhatra League-Jubo League activists when their rally was obstructed, leaving Jobayer shot dead and at least 20 people were injured.

The injured were rushed to local hospitals.

District Chhatra Shibir President Neyamot Ullah Shaker claimed that the deceased Jubayer was a Shibir activist.

Confirming the matter Sonaimuri Thana Officer-in-Charge Abdus Samad said that additional law enforcers were deployed in the area to avert further violence.
