Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has given a 48-hour ultimatum to the government to release party chairperson Khaleda Zia and to let her avail medical treatment abroad.
Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir gave the ultimatum at a rally in front of the BNP central office at Nayapaltan in the capital this noon.
"I want to make it clear today that Begum Khaleda Zia should be released within the next 48 hours and she should be sent abroad for better treatment," said Fakhrul Islam.
He also warned that if something happens to madam (Khaleda Zia), the government will be held responsible.
According to the party sources, Khaleda Zia has been battling various health issues, including arthritis, diabetes, kidney, and liver ailments, for an extended period.
She has been under medical care at Evercare Hospital in the capital since August 9th of the previous year. Her physical condition has deteriorated significantly, prompting her to transfer from a regular cabin to the critical care unit (CCU) just four days after admission.
The medical board has strongly recommended sending her abroad for more comprehensive treatment, as the current treatment options available in the country are deemed insufficient.
Unfortunately, the government has not granted permission for her to travel abroad, BNP claimed.
