The High Court (HC) today (October 15) summoned BNP chairperson's adviser Habibur Rahman Habib, asking him to appear before it on November 6, for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil passed the order as the prosecution brought the matter to the court's attention.
The court also issued a rule, asking Habib to explain as to why it shall not initiate contempt of court proceedings against him over the matter.
"We drew the court's attention to the statement made by the accused. The High Court, after hearing the matter, passed the initial order. The remarks he made is so indecent, no educated politician can make such statements," said deputy attorney general Qazi Mainul Islam.
Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman convicted and sentenced BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust Graft Case when he was a lower court judge in 2018.
