SC to hear two petitions against Jamaat on Nov 6

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Thursday (October 19) set November 6 to hold hearing on two separate petitions, including a contempt of court petition against Jamaat-e-Islami.

The other petition was filed with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, seeking a ban on all political activities, including rallies and gatherings of Jamaat-e-Islami.

The Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order today.

Barrister Tania Amir was present in favor of the petition while Advocate-on-Record Zainul Abedin Tuhin stood in favor of Jamaat-e-Islami before the court.

Earlier, Jamaat filed the petition against a High Court verdict that on August 1, 2013 scrapped its registration with the Election Commission.

The High Court declared Jamaat's registration illegal on August, 2013, following a writ petition filed in 2009 by Bangladesh Tariqat Federation's Secretary General Rezaul Haque Chandpuri and 24 others.
