BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today claimed that Detective Branch (DB) of police picked up BNP's Vice Chairmen Barrister Shahjahan Omar from a place of Dhaka in the early hours of Sunday (November 5).
He made the claims at a press release on Sunday.
Seeking anonymity, a DB official said he was detained in connection with a case filed over carrying out acts of sabotage and violence, and attacking the chief justice’s residence on October 28.
Earlier today, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) also detained former home minister, and BNP’s Vice President Air Vice Marshal (retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury.
BNP and its allies are holding another 48-hour countrywide blockade program from Sunday.
On October 28, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir suspended the grand rally in the capital's Nayapaltan and announced the hartal.
BNP claimed that the rally was suspended as police fired rubber bullets, flash grenades and lobbed tear gas shells, forcing the BNP leaders and activists to leave the rally venue.
