Nationwide blockade: Chhatra Dal locks 9 gates of DU

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leaders and activists claimed that they locked several entrances at Dhaka University early morning as part of the 48-hour blockade programme being enforced by BNP across the country.

On Sunday (November 5), the first day of the blockade, Chhatra Dal placed padlocks on nine DU gates.

However, the university staff subsequently removed all the locks.

The DU unit Chhatra Dal said they locked the gates of Curzon Hall, Central Mosque, the gymnasium, Science Library, and buildings housing the Faculty of Fine Arts, Business Studies, Institute of Education and Research, Nutrition and Food Science, and the Institute of Social Welfare and Research.

Several banners and posters put up by Chhatra Dal read: 'State renovation in progress, apologies for any inconvenience' and 'May the blockade to save the nation succeed'.

Khorshed Alam Sohel, president of the Chhatra Dal at Dhaka University said that several gates of DU were locked in support of the two-day blockade programme.

He also said: "General students boycott the classes and exams in solidarity with our movement."

As the university teachers and administration are taking classes forcibly, some gates of the university were locked, he added.

Tanveer Hasan Saikat, general secretary of the DU Chhatra League said: "I didn't find any lock on DU gates."

Professor M Maksudur Rahman, proctor of Dhaka University said, "A few banners were hanged at various gates last night. Our mobile team removed those immediately."

BNP and its allies are holding another 48-hour countrywide blockade program from Sunday.
