A Dhaka court today (November 5) sent BNP vice-chairman Air Vice Marshal (retd) Altaf Hossain Choudhury to jail in a case lodged over an attack on the official residence of Chief Justice (CJ) during BNP's grand rally in the city's Nayapaltan area on October 28.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Sheikh Sadi passed the order as police produced the former Home Minister before the court and investigation officer sub-inspector Abu Ansar pleaded to keep him behind the bars till the end of the probe in the case.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Choudhury early in the day from the Tongi area.

BNP men on October 28 allegedly attacked the residence of the chief justice, breaking down one of the gates. They hurled brickbats towards the main building indiscriminately.

Police filed the case with Ramna Police Station against 59 leaders and activists of BNP including its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, vice-chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, Abdul Awal Mintoo and Shamsuzzaman Dudu.
