Nationwide blockade: 18 vehicles set on fire in 30 hours

At least 18 vehicles were torched in the last 30 hours until 10am on Monday during the nationwide blockade enforced by BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and like-minded parties.

Miscreants torched 10 vehicles in Dhaka city, four in Dhaka division (Gazipur, Kaliakair and Narayanganj), and four in Chattogram division (Khagrachhari, Anwara and Patiya), according to the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

The vehicles included 13 buses, two trucks, one car, one CNG-run autorickshaw, and a human hauler (locally known as Leguna), it said, adding that 36 firefighting units worked to douse the fire.

After the three-day countrywide blockade that ended on Thursday, BNP and other opposition parties are observing another 48-hour road, rail, and waterways blockade which began across the country on Sunday morning.

The blockade will end at 6am on Tuesday.
