DHAKA: Opposition BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan on Monday categorically said the incumbent government is staging a drama in the name of polls to grab the power in an autocratic way.

The senior leader of the party came up with the allegation while addressing a press conference at party’s Gulshan office in the city in the evening.

He said, “Hundreds of people were killed across the country in last 11 months and 33 people were killed in Shatkhira and they made the district as a death-valley through vandalism, arson and killings.”

Nazrul Islam added: “The government is breaking the records of offences to ensure the perpetual power in the name of keeping the constitutional matters.”

He also firmly criticized the government terming it failed to ensure security to citizens.
