BNP calls for 4th phase of blockade from Sunday

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has called a 48-hour countrywide blockade from Sunday demanding resignation of the government, poll-time neutral government and the release of prisoners including Khaleda Zia.

The nationwide blockade will come to effect on 6am Sunday and will end on 6am on Tuesday.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme on Thursday (November 9) evening.

BNP and its allies already observed a 48-hour blockade across the country which began Wednesday (November 8) morning.

Previously, the party also enforced a 72-hour blockade starting October 31, following the violence centring BNP's rally on October 28.

The parties also enforced a 48-hour blockade program across the country from Sunday (November 5) morning to press home their one-point demand of immediate resignation of the ruling government.

The main opposition BNP today (November 9) claimed that around 9,831 of its leaders and activists was arrested in countrywide raids that started days before their scheduled grand rally on October 28.

BNP, Jamaat and like-minded parties observed the dawn to dusk countrywide hartal on October 29 in protest of the recent police action during the party's Nayapaltan rally.
