Government “illegal”, says Khaleda

FROM GULSHAN: Opposition BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday said the incumbent government is “illegal” and the people of the country are not compelled to abide by the directives of the government.

“The incumbent government is illegal and unconstitutional. The people of the country are not compelled to abide by the directives of the government,” she said.

The former premier came up with the allegation while addressing journalists at her Gulshan party office in the evening.

She said, “We have placed proposal for consensus but the government did not agreed. The government is trying to grab power by holding one-party elections.”

She also blamed the ruling Awami League for the current political deadlock saying the abolition of the caretaker government system is at the root of the crisis facing the whole nation.

“The Awami League will have to shoulder the responsibility for the all untoward situation now taking place for the cancellation of the caretaker government,” she said.

Khaleda told journalists that the government is responsible for creating anarchic situation as the ruling party activists involved in torching and vandalism.  

She added: “The government is holding a farce election by depriving voting rights of people of the country and they snatched the rights of fundamental rights of holding rally.”
