Vehicles vandalised, torched after announcement of polls schedule

Several vehicles were vandalised and torched in different districts of the country on Wednesday night following the announcement of the 12th National Parliament Election schedule.

Miscreants set fire on several buses and other vehicles in Dhaka, Sylhet, Bogura, Noakhali, Rajshahi, and Chandpur, leaving several passengers and drivers injured.

Earlier in the evening, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Abdul Awal revealed the date of the next parliamentary polls through a television address to the nation, reports our correspondents.

Fire Service and Civil Defence officials rushed to the respective spots upon receiving information to douse the fire, while law enforcement agency members were seen trying to hold the perpetrators.

Security arrangements have been beefed up across the country.
