Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal has categorically said that ensuring a credible election is imperative for the sake of the country's democracy and the overall growth of its economy.
He said: “The country is passing through a faith-disbelief over the 12th parliamentary election. International communities are keeping their close eyes on Bangladesh. In such a situation, there is a crucial need for a fair and acceptable election to safeguard the country’s democracy and economy.”
Habibul Awal was talking to journalists at the Electoral Training Institute in the capital Dhaka on Monday noon.
He called upon all people involved in the electoral process to discharge their duties upholding their courage and integrity.
“Election Day is very crucial. We will either succeed or fail but not will be controversial. But we must be successful. We are determined to hold an acceptable election,” he also said.
He said, “If the election is held in an acceptable manner, let the people say it is good, if it is rigged, let it also be said.”
“If the people say yes then the election will be recognised as an acceptable one,” the CEC added.
