The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled Syed AK Ekramuzzaman, a member of the party chairperson's advisory committee, and Shah Md Abu Zafar, an executive committee member, for "breach of party discipline".
A press release signed by the party's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Tuesday (November 28) said that the action was taken against the duo for their involvement in "anti-party activities."
Both Syed AK Ekramuzzaman and Shah Md Abu Zafar have been expelled from all posts at all levels of the party, including primary membership, the press release says.
Defying BNP's decision not to participate in the national elections unless it's held under a caretaker government, Syed AK Ekramuzzaman collected nomination form on Monday (November 27) to contest for the Brahmanbaria-1 seat as an independent candidate.
Earlier on November 21, Abu Zafar joined the newly registered party BNM (Bangladesh Nationalist Movement) to take part in the upcoming election.
