The High Court today (December 4) issued a rule asking why using shackles during the treatment of an arrested Jubo Dal leader should not be declared illegal.
The court also ordered the arrangement of his treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) within 10 days.
The HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah passed the order after hearing a writ filed challenging the legality of shackles used during treatment.
On Sunday morning, ailing Jashore Jubo Dal president Md Aminur Rahman's wife Nahida Sultana filed a writ seeking direction for better treatment to her husband.
A photograph of the arrested opposition leader at the National Heart Institute in Dhaka went viral on social media on November 28 and drew widespread criticism from various quarters.
Aminur Rahman was arrested in Jashore under a Special Powers Act case.
