Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said those who are boycotting this election will narrow their political path further.
He said: "Those who announced to boycott the elections, people started boycotting them. And what else do they have to do after failing to initiate movement? By boycotting this election, their political path will be further narrowed."
Obaidul Quader was addressing a press conference in Dhanmondi of the capital on Sunday (December 24).
He said those who carry out politics of terror, don't listen to the word of democracy. Elections will be held here in keeping with the standards of democratic countries around the world, he added.
Awami League general secretary also said, "We want peaceful elections. We do not want any violence. If any candidate of Awami League and their associates are involved in any violence, we will support the action taken by the Election Commission."
Apart from this, party leaders and workers who have become independent candidates should also be considered competitors, he said, adding legal action will be taken against those who engage in anti-election violence and hostile behavior.
Regarding the conflict between Awami League candidates and independent candidates, he said, law enforcement agencies are investigating. Whoever is found guilty will be punished.
"We have no objection if the Election Commission takes a reasonable decision on any matter. We know there are conspiracies, but there will be no more One Eleven in this country, it is not possible", he added.
Regarding BNP's non-cooperation movement, he said: "Come to the streets instead of sitting abroad and calling for these strange movements...If you dare, come to the street, Tarique Rahman."
Other leaders and workers of the party were present at the press conference.
