Verdict in graft case against Mirza Abbas deferred to Jan 24

A Dhaka court today (December 28) deferred the date till January 24 to deliver its verdict in a graft case filed against BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas in 2007. 

Judge Monjurul Imam of Special Judge's Court-6 of Dhaka set the fresh date on Thursday. 

The court on November 5 showed Abbas arrested in the case and allowed a defence plea for allowing producing defence witnesses afresh. Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 on October 31 cancelled Mirza Abbas's bail in the case and issued arrest warrant against him. 

The ACC on August 16, 2007, filed the case with Ramna Police Station for amassing illegal wealth of Tk 7.54 crore and concealing information about wealth of Tk 57.26 lakh.

ACC assistant director Md Khairul Huda after probing the case, filed charge sheet on May 24, 2008, accusing Abbas for amassing illegal wealth of Taka 4.23 crore.

The court on June 16, 2008, framed charges against Mirza Abbas.
