BNP's countrywide processions, mass contact tomorrow

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will bring out processions and conduct countrywide mass contact programmes tomorrow (January 5) to garner public support for its campaign to boycott the January 7 parliamentary polls.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme today (January 4) in a virtual press conference as part of the party’s ongoing non-cooperation movement.

Today was the last day of BNP's three-day mass campaign and leaflet distribution programme but the party extended it for tomorrow as well.

Earlier, BNP announced several mass contact programmes and distribute leaflets on to drum up support in favour of their campaign to boycott the January 7 national election.

BNP urged voters on December 20, to boycott the general election, reiterating demands for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to step down or else risk what it called a "one-sided dummy election".

BNP, Jamaat and like-minded parties have so far observed blockades in the 12th phase to mount pressure on the Awami League government to quit power and hold the next election under a non-partisan administration.
