Jatiya Party (JaPa) chairman GM Quader's wife Sherifa Quader lost to independent candidate Md Khasru Chowdhury in the Dhaka-18 constituency.

Khasru Chowdhury, also the industry and commerce secretary of Dhaka North Awami League, bagged 79,085 votes with the 'kettle' symbol, while his nearest rival independent candidate Tofazzal Hossain with the 'truck' symbol got 44,909 votes.

JaPa candidate Sherifa Quader got only 6,429 votes with the 'plough' symbol. As a result, she has lost her security deposit in the election.

Earlier, Awami League withdrew its candidate from Dhaka-18 constituency to give the Jatiya Party candidate a chance to win the seat.
