2 killed in Dinajpur arson attack

DINAJPUR: Two people were killed and three others injured as blockaders hurled petrol bomb at an onion-laden truck at Hili under Hakimpur upazila in the district early Friday, the third day of indefinite blockade called by 18-party alliance.

The deceased were identified as Shahnewaj, 32, son of Wahed Mondal of Hakimpur upazila and Adinur Rahman, son of Rojjab Ali of Sadullyapur upazila.

The injured are---Truck driver Yusuf, 45, Sumon, 30, and Shahjahan, 22.

Onion importer Harun-ur-Rashid said the truck carrying 300 sacks of Onion was heading to Gaibandha from Hili land port. When it reached Itabowna area, blockaders hurled petrol bomb at the truck.

Following the attack, the truck plunged into a roadside ditch, as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving two burnt alive on the spot and injured three others.

Hakimpur thana Officer-in-Charge SM Ahman Habib told banglanews on information, police rushed to the spot and sent to the injured to hospital and bodies were taken to thana compound.
