A magistrate court in Dhaka today (January 24) denied bail petition of BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury in connection with a case filed with Ramna Model Police Station over the attack on the chief justice's residence on October 28 last year.
However, the court today granted his bail in one more case filed with Paltan Model Police Station over political violence centring the BNP rally in Dhaka on October 28 last year.
Amir Khasru has now secured bail in nine cases.
Amir Khasru’s lawyer Syed Zainul Abedin Mejbah informed that he cannot walk out of jail right now as he failed to get bail in all cases.
The High Court on January 8, directed the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka to accept, hear and dispose the bail petitions of Amir Khasru in connection with the cases after a writ petition was filed challenging the legality of a magistrate court's refusal to accept the petitions.
Earlier on November 3 last year, the Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested Amir Khasru from a house in Gulshan of the capital.
Later in the day, he was placed on a six-day remand in connection with the killing of constable Amirul Islam Parvez during a clash between party men and law enforcers on October 28 last year.
