BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury were released from Keraniganj Central Jail on Thursday (Feb 15) afternoon.
Earlier on Wednesday, A Dhaka court granted bail Mirza Fakhrul and Amir Khasru in a case filed for vandalising the chief justice's residence.
Since they were granted bail in all 11 cases related to the mass rally held in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on 28 October, there was no legal bar to their release from prison.
Acting judge of the Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judges Court Faisal Atiq Bin Quader passed the order as their counsels submitted two separate petitions, seeking bail of their clients in connection with the case.
The bail petitions of the two BNP stalwarts have been denied four times by both the High Court and the Lower Court, citing various reasons.
Earlier, Fakhrul was granted bail in 10 cases filed with Ramna and Paltan police stations related to the political violence that erupted across the capital Dhaka on October 28.
Of the cases, six were filed with Paltan Model Police Station, while the remaining four with Ramna Model Police Station.
Fakhrul was arrested in a case filed with Ramna Police Station regarding the attack on the residence of the Chief Justice on 29 October.
Besides, Amir Khasru was arrested by detectives from the capital’s Gulshan area on 3 November last year.
And later in the day, he was placed on a six-day remand in a case filed over the death of a police constable in the clash took place centering BNP’s grand rally on 28 October last year.
The BNP leader was later sent to jail.
