BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed today said that the implementation of the July National Charter will pave the way for establishing a strong democratic society, government, and state in Bangladesh.

“Through the full implementation of the July Charter, a strong democratic society, government, and state will be built in Bangladesh through democratic reforms within the state structure,” he said. “This will ensure balance among all organs of the state and enable people to fully realize their democratic, human, and fundamental rights. That is why we have embarked on this new journey.”

Salahuddin made the remarks after paying homage at the grave of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, marking the 26th founding anniversary of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF). ZRF Executive Director Prof Dr Farhad Halim Donar and Director (Admin) Prof Dr Morshed Hasan Khan, among others, were present.

Emphasizing the need for democratic continuity, Salahuddin said, “The most necessary thing now is to practice and sustain democratic culture. This journey began yesterday with the signing of the July National Charter. We aim to transform the political culture to strengthen independence, sovereignty, and democracy.”

He urged the nation to move forward with “patience, tolerance, and democratic practice” to build an effective and strong democratic state.

When asked about parties yet to sign the charter, Salahuddin said the opportunity remains open. “The NCP and four left-leaning parties couldn’t attend the ceremony, but I hope they will sign in the future. Not everyone has to agree in a democracy.”

He also alleged that recent unrests were caused by “agents of the ousted fascist Awami forces” disguising themselves as student activists during the July movement.
