Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader today (February 18) said independent MPs can now criticize the government along with MPs from Jatiya Party (JaPa) in the parliament.
Quader also state minister for roads transport and bridges made the remark after submitting the list of reserved seats for women at the election commission in the capital.
Replying to a query regarding parliament effectiveness, Quader said, “Why parliament will not be effective. Bangladesh had a free and fair election, where voter turnout was 41 percent. Already, JaPa started acting as the opposition in the parliament.”
Earlier, Jatiya Party Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu stated that their 13 members of parliament will be a tough opposition in the parliament.
Quader said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina instructed the independent candidates that they can criticize government at the national parliament any time. For that reason, I think there is no obstruct in an effective parliament.”
Regarding BNP he said, “They also raised voice, where is there voice now. Their voice also now vanished. They said this government to run away, now they are running away.”
“We are still on alert. If anyone comes up with any kind of conspiratorial-terrorist activities regarding this election, then we will definitely resist. I will resist it with the people of the country,” he added.
