The Supreme Court today (March 20) granted bail to BNP leader Amanullah Aman who was serving his 13-year jail term for concealing information of wealth.
A five-judge bench, chaired by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan, granted Aman bail after hearing his appeal against a High Court verdict that sentenced him to jail.
There is now no bar for Aman to release, said his lawyer AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon.
On June 21, 2007, a Dhaka court sentenced Aman to 13 years imprisonment and his wife to three-year jail in the case.
On May 30, 2014, the High Court upheld the lower court order that had sentenced Aman to 13 years in jail and his wife Sabera to three-year jail.
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case with the city’s Kafrul police station against the couple on March 6, 2007, during the regime of the caretaker government.
