A Dhaka court on Tuesday (July 30) placed Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) chairman and former member of parliament Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho on a three-day remand afresh in a case lodged over vandalising and setting Setu Bhaban in the capital's Banani area on fire on 18 July.
Metropolitan Magistrate Saifur Rahman passed the order as the Detective Branch (DB) of police produced Partho before the court after the expiry of a five-day remand in the same case.
DB police Inspector Abu Sayeed Mia, also the investigating officer, sought 10 days to grill the BJP chief for the sake of a fair investigation, while the defence submitted a petition seeking bail along with the cancellation of the remand prayer.
After hearing both sides, the court allowed the DB police to take Partho into their custody.
On 25 July, a Dhaka court placed him on a five-day remand in the case filed with Banani police station.
A mob of 250/300 people on 18 July stormed into the premises of Setu Bhaban, vandalised many vehicles, motorbikes, ransacked different sheds and rooms, and later set those on fire. They attacked and assaulted many employees as well.
