Murder case filed against Hasina, 33 others in Ctg

A murder case was filed accusing former prime minister Sheik Hasina and education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury in connection with the killing of college student Tanvir Siddiqi.

Md Parvez, uncle of Tanvir, 19, an HSC examinee from the Ashekan Awlia Degree College of the port city, filed the case with the Chandgaon Police Station on Friday night. 

A total of 34 identified persons including Sheikh Hasina, Mohibul, three councilors of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), leaders and activists of Awami League, Juba League and Chhatra League, and 40 to 50 unidentified ones were made accused in the case, said Officerin-Charge Zahidul Kabir of Chandgaon Police Station.

Other accused in the case include CCC Chandgaon Ward Councilor Md Esrarul Haque, 45, Jamal Khan Ward Councilor Shaibal Das Sumon, 50, Chawkbazar Ward Councilor Nur Mostafa Tinu, 42, Chhatra League City unit former general secretary Nurul Azim Rony, 35, Chattogram City AL leader Babar Ali, 55, and Forest and Environment Secretary Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury, 50.

Besides, leaders and activists of AL, Juba League and BCL of different units Tarek Bin Osman Sharif, 37, Noman Sharif, 37, Mohiuddin Farhad, 45, Md Jalal Prakash Drill Jalal, 42, Md Farid, 42, Md Tahsin, 27, HM Mithu, 40, Nurul Alam Prakash Kala Boda, 48, Arif Iftekhar Rashid, 32, Osman Gani, 55, Ilias Babul, 45, Mainul Islam Sharif, Monir Uddin, 23, Md Firoz, 38, Zafar Alam, 55, Md Delwar, 40, Md Ziauddin Arman, 25, Mansur Abedin, 25, Abul Hasnat, 38, Md Zafar, 38, Mohammad Sumon Uddin, 28, Hossain Avi, 24, Md Shoaib, 38, Mizan Sikder, 35, Md Kaiser, 40, and Mahbub Alam, 42 were also made accused in the case.

The plaintiff of the case alleged that Tanvir, son of Badsha Mia of Noor Ahmed Bari at Kalamarchhara under Moheshkhali upazila in Cox’s Bazar, joined the recent student protests called by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the city.

He along with other students went to the Bahoddarhat area in procession from Muradpur on 18 July. 

The accused at the directives of Sheikh Hasina and Mohibul attacked the students with sharp weapons and opened fire in a pre-planned way at the spot.

Tanvir and other students sustained severe injuries from bullets at that time, said the plaintiff.

The injured were rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared Tanvir dead. 

It was also known that among other injured, Chittagong University (CU) student Hridoy Chandra Tarua, 23, and grocery staff Saimon alias Mahin, 16, also died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and the CMCH respectively, the plaintiff added.
