Khaleda Zia's bank accounts unfrozen after 17 years Khaleda Zia’s accounts were initially frozen on August 31, 2007, during the military-backed caretaker government’s tenure, along with those of Sheikh Hasina.

After 17 years, the bank accounts of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia are set to be reactivated.

The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) issued a letter on Monday to Bangladesh Bank, ordering the activation of all Khaleda Zia’s bank accounts.

The directive will be communicated to all financial institutions by Tuesday.

Sources at Bangladesh Bank revealed that the decision was made after consultations with the chief adviser of the interim government Muhammad Yunus and newly appointed NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan.

Khaleda Zia’s accounts were initially frozen on August 31, 2007, during the military-backed caretaker government’s tenure, along with those of Sheikh Hasina.

While Sheikh Hasina’s accounts were later unfrozen, Khaleda Zia’s accounts remained blocked despite multiple requests from the BNP during the 15 years of the Awami League's rule.
