A Dhaka court on Thursday (August 29) imposed travel bans on eight former ministers and six lawmakers of the ousted autocrat Awami League government.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammed Ash Shams Joglul Hossain passed the order following a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission, ACC Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir told the media.
The former cabinet members are – Zahid Maleque, Dipu Moni, Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nowfel, Sadhan Chandra Majumder, Nurul Mazid Mahmud Humayun, Kamal Ahmed Mazumder, Shahjahan Khan, and Qamrul Islam.
The former lawmakers with travel embargo are – Solim Uddin, Mamunur Rashid Kiron, Kujendra Lal Tripura, Qazim Uddin, Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury, and Ziaur Rahman.
ACC Deputy Director Abu Hena Ashiqur Rahman applied for an embargo on their travelling abroad.
According to the petition, the former ministers and lawmakers who allegedly amassed wealth illegally through irregularities and corruption are trying to flee the country. Travel ban should be imposed on each of them for the sake of fair investigation, it added.
