Six leaders recently appointed to the Dhaka University (DU) hall committee by the Jatiya Chatra Dal (JCD) have been dismissed from their posts after their affiliation with the ruling Awami League’s student wing, Chhatra League, was confirmed.
JCD Central President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir confirmed the decision on Friday (August 8).
In a press statement, JCD Office Secretary Jahangir Alam said the following committee members were removed for concealing information about their connections: Mosaddeq Al Haque Shanto, convener of Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall committee; Rakibul Hasan Sourav, senior joint convener; Nitu Rani Saha, senior joint convener of Shamsun Nahar Hall committee; Raju Sheikh, joint convener of Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall committee; and members Ahmed Jabir Maham and N S Simon of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall committee.
Meanwhile, following the announcement of the JCD hall committee, DU students staged protests demanding a ban on student politics in residential halls. Female students from Rokeya Hall, Sufia Kamal Hall, and Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall have issued ultimatums to hall authorities to prohibit student politics.
