Bangladesh people demand real change: Tarique Rahman

BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman said on Saturday (Aug 9) that the people of the country desire positive change.

Speaking virtually from London at the central council meeting of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), he said that every individual seeks change.

Reflecting on the events of August 5 last year, Tarique Rahman said the country witnessed a long-awaited shift, describing it as a moment when the people “were able to breathe freely.”

He added that this newfound hope has raised expectations for a better future.

However, Tarique Rahman highlighted the challenges ahead, noting that between July and August alone, around 1,500 people were reportedly subjected to enforced disappearances or killings, with thousands more affected over the past 15 years.

He also pointed out that hundreds of thousands have been injured in various ways during the same period.

Tarique Rahman emphasized that fulfilling the aspirations of these victims and the broader population is essential to building the Bangladesh envisioned by the people.
