Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has expressed concern over the health of Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur, who was injured during violent clashes in Dhaka on Friday.
BNP Standing Committee member and Begum Zia’s personal physician, Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, visited Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday night on her behalf to inquire about Nur’s condition.
BNP Media Cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan said the BNP chief was “deeply shocked” by the incident and condemned the attack.
“Begum Zia has urged the authorities to ensure proper medical treatment for him,” he said, adding that she also prayed for Nur’s speedy and complete recovery.
The clashes erupted on Friday evening in Kakrail, when a procession by Gono Odhikar Parishad passed in front of the Jatiya Party (JP) office.
Violence broke out between the two groups, prompting law enforcement to intervene with baton charges. Several Gono Odhikar activists, including Nur, sustained injuries.
Doctors at DMCH said Nur is undergoing treatment for multiple injuries, including a fractured nasal bone.
