BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today (September 3) said the Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal (JCD) panel will win in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) if the upcoming election is held free and fair.
Speaking as the chief guest at a rally and discussion organized by Dhaka District BNP to mark the party’s 47th founding anniversary, Rizvi said, “If Dhaka University students can freely exercise their right to vote, the JCD panel will be victorious.”
He described JCD as an organization built on “movements, struggles, and principles,” and emphasized its historic role in student activism.
The BNP leader also addressed the growing debate surrounding the proportional representation (PR) system in national elections, dismissing it as impractical and unfamiliar to the general public. “Now all of a sudden, some political parties are talking a lot about this. My friends, what is the PR system? Can any citizen explain it?” Rizvi asked. “Do the people in the villages, the common people of this country, know what it is? It has never been used. There is no precedent for it. The people do not want this.”
Turning to the crowd, Rizvi posed a direct question to party members: “Do you want an election with the PR system?” The audience responded with a resounding “No, no!” He concluded that the people of Bangladesh prefer direct elections and transparent voting processes.
The event was presided over by Dhaka District BNP President Khondaker Abu Ashfaq and moderated by General Secretary Nipen Roy. Among the notable attendees were BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam, Dr Dewan Salauddin Babu, Tamiz Uddin, Jatiyatabadi Swechchasebak Dal Vice President Jahidul Kabir, and Dr Jahangir Hossain.
