Mojahid, Sayedee again taken on 4-day remand over hartal violence

DHAKA: Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary-General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojahid and Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee were taken on a fresh four-day remand Saturday in a case filed with city`s Ramna Thana for their alleged involvement in torching vehicles on the night before June 27 hartal.

 

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Dr Abdul Majid gave permission to the DB police to interrogate the top Jamaat leaders as they were produced before the court after 9 day’s remand in three other cases.

 

Earlier, the court had granted four days remand for the two and Jamaat chief Motiur Rahman Nizami in the three cases. Metropolitan Magistrate SK Tofail Hassan on June 30 had granted the 4-day remand.

 

S Zaman, DB police inspector, told banglanews24.com.bd that they took the two in custody for quizzing direct from the court.

 

The court rejected the bail petition filed by the lawyer of the arrested Jamaat leaders, Advocate Abdur Razzak, on completion of the remand in the three cases filed with Paltan Thana.

 

Police said Nizami, now on remand in the Paltan cases, would be interrogated in the Ramna case “later on”.

 

The three top leaders of Jamaat were placed on a total of 16 days` remand in five cases a day after they were arrested on June 29 on charge of hurting Muslim religious sentiments.
