Nizami taken on fresh 4-day remand over hartal violence

DHAKA: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Maitur Rahman Nizami was now taken on a fresh four-day remand Monday in a case filed with city’s Ramna Thana for his alleged involvement in torching vehicles on the night before June 27 hartal.

Earlier on Saturday, party Secretary-General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojahid and Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee were taken on four-day remand in the same case.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ali Hossain gave permission to the DB police to interrogate the Jamaat chief as he was produced before the court after nine day’s remand in three other cases in a tangle the Islamic party heavyweights are caught up.

Meanwhile, Metropolitan Magistrate Ismail Hossain rejected a bail appeal filed by Nizami’s lawyer barrister Abdur Razzak in one of the cases Monday.   

The Jamaat chief and ex-minister was taken on the remand from the court jail at noon.

The three top leaders of the party were placed on a total of 16 days` remand in five cases a day after they were arrested on June 29 on charge of hurting Muslim religious sentiments.
