Voting ends, counting on in 2-upazila

DHAKA: Voting in Naldanga of Natore and Bandar upazila of Narayanganj ended peacefully in the final phase of the fourth Upazila elections on Monday amid tight security. 

The voters started casting their votes from 8:00am and ended at 4:00pm at a stretch.

Some 10 candidates are vying for chairman post, 11 for vice-chairman post and five candidates for women vice-chairman post in the two upazila polls.

Narayanganj District Police Mainur Rahman told banglanews, “The voting ended peacefully where over six-hundred policemen, five-hundred Ansar men were deployed in fifty voting centers.”

Besides, 12 Executive Magistrates, Army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel was also deployed in those areas, he added. 

On the other hand, Sharmin Aktar Jahan, Assistant Returning Officer of Naldanga Upazila said that people cast their franchise in the upazila peacefully and no untoward incident was reported.
