Dhaka: BNP chairman Begum Khaleda Zia left the capital in a motorcade on Wednesday morning for Barisal to address a grand rally in the southern city as part of her countrywide political campaign mission.

The caravan carrying the former premier, who now speaks of anti-government movement, reached Maowa ferry-ghat at 12.15 pm and crossed Gouranadi at 1.45 pm, a banglanews correspondent reports.

She will address her fourth divisional rally in the city’s Bangabandhu Udyan in her effort towards strengthening the party unity and shoring up its grassroots following.

“Three-stage security system has taken around the district for the grand rally. Police check-posts have been also set up at the entrances and important roads of the city,” said one police official.

According to the local leaders, all preparations have been taken to make the gathering a grand success.

Earlier, the BNP chief had kicked off her six divisional organizational tours from the port city of Chittagong on March 29 by addressing a grand rally at the historic Laldigihi Maidan.

She addressed her second divisional grand rally at Shibbari crossing in the southern Khulna city on April 18. The fourth one was organized at Madrassa Maidan in the northwestern
Rajshahi city on 5 May.
