‘BNP to resume Zia murder case’

DHAKA: BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Monday categorically said Ziaur Rahman murder case would be resumed if BNP assumes power next.

“The BNP will start trial of former President Ziaur Rahman murder further and we will seek help then from Awami League Sheikh Hasina,” he said.

The BNP leader came up with the comment while addressing a discussion titled ‘Press Freedom and Bangladesh’ organized by Shadhinota Forum at the National Press Club.

While replying a quote of Hasina ‘why BNP didn’t try the Zia murder case’ he said, “We thanked her to remind that. Now, if BNP assume power, they will investigate into the case and the murderers will face trial.”

He added: “But we need your help in the process as you will not call hartal and will not set fire on vehicles.”

Gayeshwar also said Hasina should be taken on remand to unveil the secret of Zia murder case as she returned to Bangladesh 17 days ahead of Zia killing.

President of the Swhadhinota Forum Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah presided over the programme.

BNP Chairperson’s advisor of Shamsuzzaman Dudu, BNP International Affairs Secretary Dr Assaduzzaman Ripon, BNP Member Secretary of Dhaka City Abdus Salam, organization’s General Secretary Engineer Azizul Islam and Nationalist Women Party General Secretary Shirin Sultana were among others present at function.
