No talks over polls now, says Hasan

DHAKA: Ruling Awami League Publications and Publicity Affairs Secretary Hasan Mahmood on Wednesday categorically said there is no arrange dialogue over general elections.

He made the assertion while addressing a discussion meeting by Bangladesh Desratna Parishad at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the city.

The AL leader said, “Awami League cannot sit with fundamentalists and terrorists. There can be talks if they (BNP) leave the path of destruction and leave association of fundamentalists.”

He added: “General election will be held in 2019 where Sheikh Hasina will act as chief of interim government as per Constitution.”

In response to demand of Khaleda Zia, he said, “It is 95 percent anarchists and fundamentalists not 95 percent citizens are her followers.”

He also asked his party-men to be aware about the opportunists who joined Awami League and 14-party alliance recently as they have assumed power for the second term.

Chittaranjan Das, president of Bangladesh Desratna Parishad in the chair, presided over the meeting.

AL executive committee member Sujit Roy Nandi, organizing secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan Awami League Shahe Alam Murad, Sanjida Khanam MP and journalist Shaban Mahmud also spoke.
