Trial against Mufti Izhar, his son starts

CHITTAGONG: A Chittagong court on Wednesday has started proceedings of a trial against Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer of Hefazat-e-Islam Mufti Izhar and his son Mufti Harun Izhar on charge of keeping acid from Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa.

The trial started through framing charge by Chittagong Metropolitan Session Judge SM Mujibur Rahman.

Judge SM Mujibur Rahman also fixed deposition date from July 15 onwards.

Mufti Izhar’s lawyer Advocate Abdus Sattar confirmed the matter to banglanews.

On September 7, 2013, five students were injured, later three of them died under treatment, in a blast at Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa.

Director of the madrasa is Hefajat-e-Islam Nayeb-e-Amir Mufti Izharul Islam.

Besides, the Madrasa authorities claimed the blast was from laptop charger. But, police recovered four fresh grenades and huge amount of grenade preparing materials and 18-bottle acid from the residence of Mufti Izhar.

On May 28, police filed a case against Mufti Izhar and his son Mufti Harun Izhar in this connection.
