2 AL men murdered in Pabna, Kushtia

DHAKA: A leader and an activist of ruling Awami League were chopped to death by assailants and another injured in Pabna and Kushtia districts between Sunday night and early Monday.

The deceased were identified Mokaddes Hossain Mukul, 45, general secretary of Haturia-Nakalia union Awami League of Pabna and Mamun Gazi, 35, an activist of  Chithlia union Awami League, in Mirpur Upazila of Kushtia.

Banglanews Pabna Correspondent reports: Miscreants chopped to death a local leader of Awami League and injured another in Bera Upazila of the district on Sunday night.

Family sources said that some 8-10 miscreants opened fire aiming the victim and his assistant while returning home by riding a motorbike around 10:00pm and chopped them indiscriminately with lethal weapon, leaving them critically injured.

Later, locals rushed to the spot and sent them Sirajganj Enayetpur Medical College Hospital but Mokaddes died on the way to hospital.

Bera Thana Officer-in-Charge Tofazzel Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Banglanews Kushtia correspondent reports: An Awami League leader was chopped to death by miscreants in Gopalpur village of Chithlia union under Mirpur Upazila of the district early Monday.

Sources said that some miscreants stormed into the house of Mamun and chopped him indiscriminately around 2:00am, leaving him critically injured.

Hearing the screaming of him, family members rushed to the spot and sent him to Kushtia General Hospital but he died on the way to hospital.

Confirming the matter, Mirpur Thana Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam Shahin told banglanews that the body was kept in Kushtia General Hospital morgue.

Following the incident, police detained a Union Parisad member named Jihad Ali for interrogation.
