Ershad sued in Lalmonirhat

LALMONIRHAT: A case was filed against Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad as he failed to submit the statements of election expenditure.

Lalmonirhat District Returning officer and deputy commissioner Habibur Rahman filed the case according to section 74 of the Representation of the People Order, 1972 with Sadar Thana on Thursday night.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) AHM Mahfuzar Rahman of Lalmonirhat Sadar Thana confirmed the matter to banglanews.

The case filing incident came on light on Friday noon that created extensive unrest in the district.

The OC said Ershad contested from Lalmonirhat-1 (Hatibandha-Patgram) with ‘Langol’ (plough) symbol on January 5 national Election. But he didn’t submit the statements of election expenditure in time to Election Commissioner.

The Returning officer also filed another case against pro-Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) candidate Sadekul Islam of the same constituency.
