DHAKA: Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday asked the Deputy Commissioners to ignore political pressure to evict illegal capturers with a view to ensuring people’s safety.

The communications minister made the plea after DCs made complaints that they cannot continue eviction drives due to political pressure.

He said people are in sufferings on roads due to the down pours in the month of Ramadan. The administration should take initiatives so that no illegal shops can be set up or no illegal vehicles can move on roads.

The ruling Awami League lawmaker asked the DCs to do their duties ignoring political pressure.

In response to a question from a journalist, he said the DCs informed him they face political pressure. They have proposed of building by-pass roads, new roads and expansion of existing roads to ease traffic-jam.

Obaidul said no more roads are needed. “We should maintain and utilize the existing roads. We should change our mentality in improving the situation,” he added.
