DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Wednesday categorically said the 20-party alliance is united against the incumbent repressive government.

The BNP chief, also former premier of the country, urged the people to pay their support in ousting the government.

Khaleda made the assertion while addressing an Iftar Mahfil with the political leaders, members from civil society, professionals and journalists, organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in a city hotel.

The BNP chair claimed that there is now no guaranty of life of the people. They are to keep fasting, a religious occasion of Muslims, without taking food.

The Awami League-led government has also broken down the country’s economy, she also claimed.

Khaleda blamed the incumbent government saying that they have destroyed the country as bank loots, murders as well as kidnapping have became common phenomena in the country.

The people of the country want to be free from the repressive government, she added.

Khaleda assured that the 20-party alliance is united to bring the voting rights and democracy in Bangladesh.  

She urged the people to be united to enforce tough movement after Eid-ul-Fitr.

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Colonel (retd) Dr Oli Ahmad, BNP standing committee member RA Gani, Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar, MK Anwar, eminent poet Al Mahmud and prominent journalist Shafique Rehman were among others.

Jamaat-e Islami’s Nayabe Ameer Mujibur Rahman presided over the meeting.
