NARAYANGANJ: Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, also former President, on Saturday said the government does not have rights to remain in power as the people are not in peace.

“Some 35 killings were recorded in past month but none of them was brought under trial. So, the government has no right to stay in power anymore,” he said.

The special envoy to the PM came up with the observation in a meeting arranged by Jatiya Party at historic Aminpur playground in Sonargaon upazila of the district.

Mentioning the recent killing of Maulana Shaikh Nurul Islam Faruqi, a moderator of religious program on Channel-I, the JP chief said a regime of killing and forced disappearance is prevailing in the country.

He further suggested leaders of ruling Awami League and BNP to join JP leaving their own parties.

He also claimed that the highest level of development was done in the country in his government’s tenure.

Ershad commented that democracy means peace not election. The mass don’t want to see any of them in power, he added.

He also criticized the activities of BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman and said people are afraid of him.

Ershad also urged the government for not cutting the illegal gas connections in the area rather make them legal.

Member of the Parliament of Narayanganj-3 constituency Liakat Hossain Khoka presided over the program where other senior JP leaders were also present.
