Defamation suit against Fakhrul

DHAKA: A defamation suit has been filed against BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, for terming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her party as ‘murderer’.

Vice-president of Bangladesh Awami Matshajibi League SM Nur-e-Alam Shiddique filed the case before the court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on Monday morning.

Plaintiff’s lawyer Dulal Mitra confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said the hearing of the case would be held in the court of metropolitan magistrate Snigdha Rani Sarkar at noon.

Earlier on August 24, Fakhrul termed Hasina and her party Awami league as murderer in a press conference in BNP’s central office in city’s Naya Paltan area.

Nur-e-Alam, in the case statement, alleged that Fakhrul had referred to the Prime Minister and Awami League as murderer with the intention to defame her and the party personally, socially, nationally and internationally.
